Choosing A Realtor

When both buying and selling a home, finding the right Realtor can be the key to a successful transaction.

Here are some things you may want to consider when choosing a Realtor.

  • Does your Realtor have extensive market knowledge? You will want to find a Realtor that is both familiar with the area as well as knowledgeable about the current market.
  • Does your Realtor have knowledge of the type of property you are looking to buy or wanting to sell? Depending on what you are looking for in a home, you may want to find a Realtor with knowledge and experience working with the particular type of home in which you are looking for. Whether you are looking for a townhome, single family, new construction, etc., finding a Realtor that specializes or works extensively with a certain type of property or in a certain area can be very beneficial in every aspect of the home buying and selling process.
  • Is your Realtor a hard worker? Find a Realtor that will work hard for you. Take note of what the Realtor has been doing in your area. Have they been holding open houses? Have you seen them walking the neighborhoods providing information and marketing their listings? You can also get an idea of the Realtor’s work ethic by viewing their market plan for listing a home for sale. Even if you are buying and not selling, ask your Realtor to see what his market plan for listing a home consists of. After your Realtor has given you his market plan presentation, if you would still like more evidence of how he will work for you, feel free to ask for references or view his testimonials on his web site.
  • Do you and your Realtor have a similar personality? Finding someone you connect with and who shares your interests can be a very important part of your decision. After all, this person will be assisting you with the biggest transaction of your life and you will want someone that is not only a valuable asset but that will make your home sale and purchase an enjoyable one.

The right Realtor for you may be a seasoned veteran, a new comer, or someone in between. They may possess varying degrees of each of the qualifications listed above. Ultimately, the decision of which Realtor is best for you is in your hands.
